Thanks to Screencrush, we found out not only is there a sequel to the Lego Movie there will be a promising spin-off, the Lego Batman movie.
At first glance, this sounds like a great idea. One of the many highlights from the first Lego Movie was Batman. Heck one of the best scenes from the movie was when he uses countless Batarangs to hit the control switch then he remarks “First try.”
but when you look deeper at the potential for the Lego Batman movie spin-off, it has to make you wonder if this is a good idea. Part of what made Batman work well in the first movie was it was not centered in the DC universe but the entire Lego universe.
This time around, the focus sounds like it will be on his world. Could this be overkill with the new Batman vs. Superman movie slated to come out prior to this? Are they going to be able to bring in the adults to see this like they did with the Lego movie?
So far they are doing a decent job with the casting but the script will be the key. They will need to be able to create a blend of humor for the young and old.
The Lego Batman movie is expected to be in theaters in the Spring 2017.
Another spin-off in the work is a Lego Ninjago movie, which is slated to come out in the Fall of 2017.
While the success or failure of these movies should not have an affect on the Lego Movie sequel, slated to come out in 2018, it will be interesting to see if they can carry over the same magic.
Do you think the Lego Batman movie has a chance to make some waves or will it be a flop?
