Fans were curious what was going to happen with the first standalone from the Star Wars Anthology Series and boy did they deliver.
Rogue One followed up the 2015 release of The Force Awakens and showed it was able to stand on its own two feet.
Before we move on with our review, rest assured we are going to keep it spoiler free.
There were several things we loved about the movie.
There are a bunch of new faces this time around and the one who stole the show for us were K-2SO and Chirrut Imwe. We loved the sarcasm of K-S20 no matter the situation and how Imwe showed his devotion to the force.
There were a pair of CGI characters in the movie and we have to say Lucasfilms did an outstanding job. There have been some awful ones in other movies but these were flawless.
The epic fight scene at the end of the movie was great on so many levels. It was fluid, moving between air and land battles. You are on the edge of your seat as you see it unfold.
Lastly, the ending was a bit of a shocker but we loved the direction it took.
We think the use of Darth Vader in Rogue One was spot on. We are sure some fans would love to see him involved more but it would have been too much.
There are some negative aspects with the movie.
The majority of the characters were just there. Sure they had a few good lines but there was not much to make us care for them. Some of it was the result of bringing in too many new faces and giving them a significant role.
We did like some of the cameos in the movie but at some points, it felt like it was a way to distract the audience. Like look over here and miss the fact we had a lack of real dialogue.
We think one of the biggest issues was the proverbial hype train and how fans were immediately drawing a connection with the rest of the Star Wars franchise.
If you are a fan of the Star Wars universe then this is a movie you are going to want to see. Not a fan? No worries, Rogue One does enough to keep you interested in the movie with the epic battles. The movie is a solid eight out of ten.
