How are things going to shake down in the first Smackdown only WWE PPV event this coming weekend?
The WWE kicks off their new show specific PPV events featuring Smackdown wrestlers so you had to expect our predictions for Backlash 2016.
We are curious to see how these show specific PPV events pan out. Personally we think they are going to be watered down too much and will not do much to bring in any significant amount of new subscriptions.
As always, the two of us are by no means experts, we just love seeing if we can figure out what the WWE Creative team has in store for the fans.
On towards our Backslash 2016 predictions.
Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt
The pairing between these two is a peculiar one considering how Orton left Summerslam following the beatdown. Theory would say Orton should come back with a win, but what is it going to do to Wyatt who should be at the top of Smackdown. Hopefully this is a one and done match.
Intercontinental Champion: The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler
The Miz has been on absolute fire in recent weeks when it comes to his work on the mic. The question is if the creative minds at WWE are going to let him carry this on for another PPV or two. We think they will as Ziggler takes a loss here and moves back down the ranks of the mid level wrestlers.
Smackdown Women’s Championship Six-Pack Challenge
Six women want to be crowned the new Women’s Champion but we know there can only be one. All six of them are talented but that does not mean they are getting the gold. We think it will come down to Nikki Bella and Becky Lynch. If the WWE creative team is smart, they will give the title to Becky, but that is a big if.
Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match
There are four teams vying for a shot to be crown the first Smackdown Tag Team title. We would like to see Slater/Rhyno vs. The Hype Bros, it will probably come down to the Usos and American Alpha. Alpha should come away with the belts by the end of the night.
WWE World Champion: Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles
While we have thoroughly enjoyed the title run for Ambrose, it feels like Smackdown is moving towards a change. Styles has elevated his game and is ready to take the Blue show to the next level. This might be the first in a series of PPV battles between these two.
