Disney Infinity was cancelled this week and while there are some sad souls, it is a good thing for video game fans.
When the news broke this week about the Disney Infinity cancellation, we should say that we were shocked at the news, but it would be a lie.
Before we get to why we feel this is a good thing for video games, fans of the game should be happy to know Disney is still continuing with the previously announced add-ons, Alice Through The Looking Glass and Finding Dory, which should be out sometime in June.
When Infinity first came onto the scene, they were a welcome change of pace. It was another game to challenge the dominance of Skylanders and battle for the success they had.
Best yet, it had our favorite Disney characters.
But as time went on, Disney churned out countless add-ons for the game and while they were welcomed at first, it has come to feel like we were being overloaded with them.
It did not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. All you have to do is to see the shelves at your local retailer with countless characters waiting to be purchased.
Personally I think there is still a market for games like Disney Infinity but it needs to be done in the right way. It does not mean there have to be countless figures to be played.
Rather they should focus on the playability of the game and the uniqueness of the characters.
The people who bring us Skylanders should take note, because this could be their fate too if they do not right the ship.
