Godzilla showed why he is the King of the Monsters.
We finally had the chance to see the long awaited sequel, Godzilla King of the Monsters and we were not disappointed.
This is one of the three movies this year that we had as a must see. We have been a huge fan of the Toho Franchise and we have not come across a movie we did not like.
Let’s start with the positives of the movie.
The Kaiju
Boy oh boy they did an amazing job with the creatures in the movie. They are the stars of the movie and rightfully so.
In addition they improved upon Godzilla and not just with the CGI effects. They gave him more personality in the movie between his actions and facial responses.
We also loved they kept with the lore of the original monsters along with Godzilla. One example is how King Ghidorah was an alien race. We think this was the right decision to go with.
There are some negatives we had for the movie.
The biggest issue was the plot itself and the majority of the human characters. At times, it felt like it was working, but for the majority of the movie felt like a struggle to get through in terms of plot.
Of the humans in the movie, the Mom is our biggest complaint. She went from the villain in the movie to the eventual hero when she sacrificed herself. It reminded us a lot of the doctor from Deep Blue Sea who sacrificed herself at the end. Personally we think it would have best serve to have her die before the heroic act.
One major plot issues we had was how the Dad figured out his daughter was going to be there. We never saw a part where it should them making the connection. Perhaps it is in a deleted scene?
In the end, if you have a chance to catch it on the big screen, you should. But know either way, you will enjoy the Kaiju for sure.
