Kong Skull Island Makes a Strong Return

Kong Skull Island

The King of the Apes is back on the big screen, but the big question has to be does the hiatus need to end?

The simple answer to Kong Skull Island is yes but there is more to the movie than just being a precursor to a meeting with Godzilla.

It has been over ten years since we saw Peter Jackson’s King Kong which had soured some folks on the primate. Thanks to the resurgence of movies like Pacific Rim and the King of the Beasts, this movie was the chance to breathe new life into Kong.

Boy did it deliver.

You can move forward in our review of Kong Skull Island as we will keep it spoiler free.

Unlike the 2014 Godzilla movie, the real focus of the story is Kong. He is bigger and even badder than his previous counterparts. The CGI work was solid and they did a great jon of showing him go through a rage of emotions.

Fans will get the chance to see Kong displaying his full prowess.

There were a few standout roles in the movie too. Namely they belong to Samuel L Jackson and John C Riley. Both of their characters play a pivotal part in the movie and do help move it forward.

Despite the success of the mammoth creatures, there are few of things that stuck out to us and not in a good way.

If you are looking for any kind of characters to care about, you will have a hard time finding them here. Aside from the two mentioned above, the rest are stereo types that are never given much room to grow.

We had a few minor issues with the enemies Kong squared off with, specifically their biology and how they were able to function.

Also do not expect any real closure by the end of the movie. Sure Kong is going to stand victorious, but you are left with more questions.

This may not sit well with some folks but the post credit scene makes up for it with us with what they have on the horizon.

If you like movies like this, then you should check it out in the theater. There is nothing like seeing him on the big screen. Otherwise, wait until it comes to DVD.

If you had a chance to check it out, let us know what you thought of Kong Skull Island.
