The Mortal Kombat series is on the verge of jumping the shark.
The release of Kombat Pack 2 reminded us that Mortal Kombat needs to limit unique characters and focus more on the internal roster they already have.
We have started to see this from the Injustice series, but it has grown even more bothersome in the Mortal Kombat line.
This became more apparent with MK 11. This time around, we have seen the addition of the Joker, Terminator, Robocop, and now Rambo.
We were on board with the Terminator and Robocop. It felt somewhat unique on how they were designed and who wouldn’t want to see these two figures duke it out. The return of the Joker was less exciting only because he feels like a standard piece of the Mortal Kombat roster.
The breaking point was Rambo. This took away from our joy of seeing Rain and Mileena.
There has been no gameplay reveal, so maybe we will be wrong. Perhaps he will be a trap character and unique to the game. Something says he won’t be though.
Don’t get us wrong. We do like it when they throw in one here or there. Honestly, we would prefer to see Netherrealms opt to keep them from the Mortal Kombat game and create a spinoff.
The idea of a horror style fighting game or even movie characters sounds more appealing. We would prefer this than throwing in unique characters into every Kombat Pack.
