Can a new WWE PPV event shake the funk of the previous ones?
The 2017 Great Balls of Fire WWE event has some intriguing matches on the card but there we do not think there is enough to give fans a strong event.
Part of the problem we see centers around the matches and the direction they are taking some of the story-lines. We could wrong but it is just a feeling we have going into this weekend.
Sure we did not nail down any of our 2017 predictions but we still have fun trying with the PPV events. As always, we are by no means experts but just love giving these predictions a whirl.
On to our 2017 Great Balls of Fire predictions.
Enzo vs Big Cass
Former partners against each other in this match. The breakup has been solid and it should make for some interesting Money would say go with the big guy, while the smart move is for the little guy top score the upset. Enzo sneaks away with a win but gets destroyed in the after glow.
Neville vs Akira Tozawa (Cruiserweight Championship)
Neville’s reign as champion has been a solid one and we do not see it ending any time soon. The newcomer Tozawa has some vocal support on his side but we do not see it being enough to end the King’s time on top. Neville wins and keeps the belt.
Seth Rollins vs Bray Wyatt
You would think this match would have more pop to it but it is as bland as it comes. Maybe the match itself will turn out to be a solid one but that means it could lead to an ongoing story. Something neither wrestler needs. A Rollins win will put a stop to it.
Cesaro/Sheamus vs The Hardy Men (Tag Team Championship)
The two tag teams have some chemistry together but the last thing we need in an iron man match. They would have been better served with a different stipulation. There is no need for the Hardys to have the titles returned so the champs should earn the win.
Sasha Banks vs Alexa Bliss (Woman’s Championship)
Even though the title is on the line, it feels like not much is expected when the two women meet. A changing of the belt could do wonders for Bliss and Banks but we don’t see it taking place yet. The Boss will get the belt later in the summer. Perhaps Nia comes out and interferes in the match.
Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman (Ambulance Match)
Hands down one of the more confusing outcomes of the night. It would make sense for Strowman to come away with the win and build towards a Lesnar match at Summerslam. But the Big Dog called his shot for the # 1 spot. Normally this is not given much thought but it is Roman. The man among monster is going to lose this one.
The Miz vs Dean Ambrose (Intercontinental Championship)
So this match feels like a last minute idea to get something else on the card. Since that is the case, we do not see anything major coming out of it. Maybe the Miztourage gets involved but even without them, we do not see the Lunatic capturing the title.
Samoa Joe vs Brock Lesnar (Universal Championship)
The build up to this match has been better than expected , but part of that has us worried. Not so much for Lesnar losing but rather what happens to Joe. While it would be nice to see the belt on Joe and have an actually championship on the weekly show, we don’t see the WWE creative minds letting this happen. Just don’t let it be a squash match.
